nature speaks

Gray Winter's Eve RS
These winter months leave me feeling a bit uninspired. It's cold, rainy and gray...the type of days, I wish I could just sleep away. Sure I carry my camera around just as I did during those beautiful spring, summer and autumn days, but the motivation isn't the same. I dream of those snowy picturesque moments that I find in our Flickr pool, but my reality is simply gray.

I then come across a simple, yet elegant moment such as msjunior's photograph below, and I'm reminded of winter's unspoken beauty. I love the quote she included with her photo (author unknown): "There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough to pay attention to the story."

Nature speaks to us in a variety of ways. I suppose I'm most willing to listen to beautiful rays of sunshine, the colors of spring flowers or the change of autumn leaves. But, if I'm willing to listen to the quiet of winter...I may be pleasantly surprised by the story that's told.

Until next time,

Love this post, Ashley. I feel the same way about the dull grey days our winters usually consist of, and can't get inspired either. But these photos show that there's always something there if you look for it.

I feel you! Gray is what we get as well, but man oh man, what a gorgeous shot that is! Whew!

I have been feeling the same about the weather and lack of inspiration. I know there is plenty of beauty out there to explore, and capture, but it's finding the motivation to go out and do it despite the cold that holds me back. Love that beautiful quote, thank you for this post and the inspiration!

I'm loving the simplicity of branches against sky. There is beauty in all seasons, we just need to find it!

Hi Ashley,
I can relate! Many winter days the world will look pretty dull from inside my house, but I'll force myself to go out with my camera or I'll have to take the dog out for a walk....... And there will be beauty outdoors just waiting for me!
These two captures work so well together. Both give us glimpses of the beauty of grayness!

I have the same problem with winter dullness. Not to mention that it's COLD!! But I do love bare branches against a sky, and that last image is stunning.

Gorgeous photos, both! I like how you say you are most willing to listen to the sunshine. Aren't we all?

I love this, Ashley. I must learn to listen to nature speaking. And stop wishing away the winter months...

Both beautiful photos! I also find it sometimes difficult to be inspired during the winter. This year especially since we haven't had that much snow, just lots and lots of rain. But I try to seek out the beauty anyway. Some days it is easier to find it than others.

I agree with your feelings, carrying my camera, hard to find the inspirational moment at this time of year. Lovely choice in photos.

Both photos are so beautiful! From someone who doesn't get to experience winter like this, I would love a chance to experience the changes of seasons, our environment looks much the same all year round! But I do understand your feelings. I love the grey tones and bleakness of these images. The bare branches are so interesting!

That's beautifully said, and I couldn't agree more. That's what I love about the seasons, each seems to have it's own language, it's own things to say.
