made with love

First, let me make something clear: I'm not a foodie. I love to eat, I just don't care to spend time in the kitchen anymore. My children are grown and I find myself alone at meal times most often, so a bowl of cereal when hunger persists, works just fine. However, meals for special occasions are different. From the beginning of human history celebrations have been shared over food, often feasts. In our family, birthday celebrations are an opportunity to request a favorite meal, and a time for us all to gather together. Recently one of my sons celebrated a birthday and requested his favorite meal, a simple pot roast. From simple common ingredients, I took care to prepare his requested dish. The preparation of this meal became a labor of love, from my heart and hands. It offered me an opportunity to not only nourish my family again, but continue our history as we celebrate a special occasion and enjoy time spent together around the table.

This photo by *nanite* brings to mind the time and care put into preparing food for our loved ones. I like to think that this pasta was enjoyed by a gathering of family members to celebrate a happy occasion.

These are both such beautifully simple pictures. I love the way yours is mainly orange and the pasta is all yellow. Gorgeous!

Great photos Maureen - I particularly like the still-life one above. Your text evokes care and love. I can only imagine how wonderful the meal was!

wow, this photo somehow reminds me that the simplest of foods (basic ingredients mixed together) with love taste the best.

Love these photos...and I agree that the most important part of food and eating is the communal breaking bread together.

both color palettes evoke "comfort food" to me; warm, and oh, so inviting! Love the unique/centered focus in #2... this is fun!
