with two cats in the yard

Our house, is a very very very fine house...

A house isn't really a home until there's a cat curled up somewhere, enjoying the warmth from a sunny window or monopolizing a favorite chair.

Everywhere I've ever lived, cats have been there.  In our house growing up, there were always two or three underfoot (along with a dog, rabbits, fish, a goat ... ) I brought home a stray kitten the day after our cat had just had a litter of her own; I snuck a cat into my college dorm under cover of darkness; we adopted a mother cat and 4 kittens just at a time when the rest of our world was falling apart.... and they helped make the world whole again.  Cats have witnessed everything in our lives -- births, deaths, love, marriage, divorce. Sorrows and joys.  Highs and lows.  The worst days and the best days.

My photo above shows our cat, Willow, basking in the checkered light through the french doors.  He's a regular model for me, and the special guy in my life at the moment. He's kind of handsome, right?  :)

The shot below, by Urban Muser, captures another cat moment.  This photo was shot with an iphone, and so it answered my challenge to step outside the DSLR box and shoot in a different way. I love the dark coziness and the almost-silhouette of the cat against the backdrop of the windows.  There's a bit of a caught-in-the-act look about her, don't you think?  She may have been plotting something naughty.   You can see more of Urban Muser's work on her blog.

Oh, and just in case you thought you tuned into the wrong week, don't adjust your dial.  This is still "Around the House" week, with 4 more Muses set to post their photos and pick from the Muses flickr pool.  Up next is "Black and White," and we're loving your submissions.  Keep them coming!

Finally, don't forget to enter our first giveaway.  You have till midnight tonight (Sunday, April 15th) to comment on Tammy's post, and you'll be automatically entered in the drawing to win a vintage Brownie camera and a set of Kim Klassen's gorgeous textures.  Click here to comment and enter!

Until next time.

You Muses are great! I love urban muser and I love cats! So I guess that means I love this post! I always had cats growing up too, always outside cats, but they were always around. Kind of miss having one around, guess I'll just have be content watching my tiny dog sunbathe!

Lucy, thanks so much for choosing my cat as your companion shot this week--I am honored! Your timing is funny, because I always joke on my blog that my cat doesn't like to have her photo up there, and yesterday was the first time I showed her face on my blog. Her name is Tilla (like Tia). My dog's name is Willow--another coincidence. Thanks again!

Wonderful post Lucy!! With 4 dogs and 5 puppies just off to new homes, I have to say I still miss having a cat underfoot.

Willow is quite handsome. For the first time in many years, I am currently cat-less, and I certainly miss having one around.
I loved that shot by Urban Muser when I saw it in the pool. Great pair up.

Your cat photos are lovely and I completely agree that a house is not a home without at least one cat. We have 4 right now, so we've got quite the home!

I grew up with cats and it was a mild love hate relationship - my brother was allergic and I always wanted a dog. we had 2 cats one Fluffy and the other Rusty. such original naming I know.
Fluffy was a fine gentleman. I remember asking my mom why he was so fancy? wasn't he a boy? shouldn't he be tougher. She would always reply that he was a "fairy" nice boy. Your willow reminds me of my fluffy - but now I'm old enough to know that cats are different than dogs. and thank god for that. love the pair today lucy, thanks for the wonderful reminder.

Every home should have a cat - I wouldn't have it any other way.
