I have to admit I am a sucker for rusty colored hair, the way it catches the light and glimmers in the sun. It helps that I have three of them at home! I am especially happy when a little bed head (not the the product, just the literal sleeping in bed) is added to the mix to add some pizazz. My question is why they are called red heads, looks more orange to me :)
I love the rusty tones that Justine Gordon captured of this beautiful horse.
Thank you always for sharing your beautiful pictures, it is so much fun musing with all of you! Until next time.

So beautiful - I love rusty coloured, too! So great details on both photos and I love Justine's angle!
I love this interpretation. My 8 year old nephew has amazing orange hair too!
thank you so much for including my shot and I absolutely love your photograph!
I always loved that color of hair! Beautiful shots!
if i do say so myself (on behalf of me, my sisters, my daughter, my nephews....) redheads ROCK! and that includes horses, cats, dogs, woodpeckers, etc. :) love your ode to gingers.
[sorry, weird posting issues]
My sons and I are redheads of Scandinavian descent, and so I happen to know the answer to this question. Way back when, the Viking countries did not distinguish between red and orange as separate colors. Which is why hair we now see as orange is called red.
Also, I learned from a genetic counselor that the red hair and the pale skin are actually two separate mutations. Blonde/brown/black hair are all related (think BCBC or CCBB or CBBC), whereas red hair is completely different (e.g., ADAD). Though the pale skin that can't tan almost always comes with the red hair, it doesn't always, because it is a separate mutation.
I love being a mutant. :D
me too -- i really wanted a red-headed doggie. he turned about more apricot and turns out i like that, too.
wonderful shots--I am a HUGE fan of red hair!
Red, orange, or rust, it's all striking! Great captures.
Fantastic pairing!! Our family has the redheads, the strawberry blondes, and the freckles to match.
What a great pairing, April. Stunning.
How fabulous, April! What a great pairing!
That calf photo is so adorable!
awwww, I love seeing photos of your sweet 'red' headed babies. And what a fabulous photo to pair it with.
