You know summer is ending in our little town of Vedano al Lambro, in Northern Italy near Milan, when the barricades and fences start to appear in the Parco di Monza, and street signs come up to direct people to VIP parking, shuttle buses and paddocks. The second weekend of September brings the Formula 1 races to the Monza Autodromo, just a couple of kilometers from our home. Whether you follow motorsports or not, you cannot escape the effects of this major international event when living in this small community. The crowds in Ferrari red descend on race weekend, and when they leave there is nothing left but a few forgotten signs and the feeling that summer is irrevocably over. Long before we moved here, long after we leave, it will continue to mark the transition into autumn for this town.
This gorgeous photo from Aimeelmk had the same feel for me. Harvest shapes the end of summer for farming communities, in a similar timeless way. It always has and always will. These transitions shape the personality of a place, give it an identity beyond architecture and history. Are there shared events that signal the end of summer in your neighborhood or town?

there is something very beautiful and powerful about well-made machines, and both these photos capture that. in your photo, kat, i love that the young man is reaching out to touch, just like a kid in a toy store. and in in aimeelmk's photo, she's really captured that sense of the end of the harvest season. beautiful work.
I love your pairing Kat. I wonder what my communities "sign" is. I will definitely have my eyes open for it now.
I love that guy in your photo.
he. just. wants. to. touch that. car....
if only he could reach a little
further...YES! I touched a tire.
Awesome photos... When Tam asked me to have a look at this latest post I had to laugh. I am just like the guy in the photo touching the tire, and yes I would touch the tractors too.(probably climb on them if nobody was looking)
I love all the black and red contrast in the first shot. Boys and their toys! The harvest shot is gorgeous. The clouds are amazing.
nice pairing! i loved aimeelmk's photo when i saw it in the flickr pool.
What a beautiful study in contrasts and similarities
beautiful shots.
Yes, my husband wants to "touch it" too. :) Lovely shots. What a fun way to think of end of summer.
I love this pairing Kat. Both shots are stand alone, well taken images. I loved aimeelmk's when i saw it in the flickr pool, also.
Interesting to think about what signals end of summer in my community. I think the closing of swimming pools, beginning of school, and fall sports. Football games and marching bands.
