Around the blogosphere, posts relating to summer reading lists flourish. I pore over them all, adding to my own library or purchase wish list. I'm partial to memoirs - literary, food-related; history, classic literature, with the odd bit of fluff thrown in (Twilight, anyone?). One of my old stand-by's, however, is my dog-eared copy of The Shell Seekers. If you haven't read it, do. It's a lovely narrative of a family from pre-wartime through the 80's. I couldn't tell you how many times I've read it - twenty or thirty? - but it's a comfort to me and a wonderful filler when my bedside stack is depleted.
This photo of my daughter captures the spirit of the book for me - centered around a painting of a girl on a Cornish beach caught on canvas by her father. In this case, my girl caught by me on film. She is a seeker and a croucher in order to observe the treasures she finds, whether it is shells or bugs or shiny sea glass.
Pixelmama's yummy macro of a shell felt like the perfect accompaniment - the treasure sought, now found.
I wish I could post every gorgeous photo I'm seeing in the mortal muses flickr pool. I had at least ten different posts in my head based on the inspiration I found there. Keep them coming!
cheers,
mosey

beautiful pair up here, kim! I just love your post. Pictures and your words are awesome :)
beautiful photos. i love your composition in the photo of your daughter. i have never read that book, but am putting it on my list now.
two gorgeous photos -- the specific focus on each of them is really captivating.
since i'm a librarian i'm ashamed to say that i've never read the shell seekers, but now i will move it to the top of my very long reading list. so many books, so little time!
Lovely selection of photos and words.
I too have read The Shell Seekers about 50 times. It's an old friend and my go-to novel when I don't have something else waiting in the pile. It's the most comforting book I've ever read. So glad someone else loves it too.

I will have to seek out this book. Wonderful shots and post, my friend. :)
two wonderful photos! i'll have to read that book!
What beautiful photos! They go well with your post, perfect pick!
What a great set of photos. I feel like summer is getting away from me - must be something about not getting a vacation this summer. Here's hoping my Autumn vacation is almost as good.
oh i love your image kim... and that is one of my favorites from trina (pixelmama)....
you are all rocking this. i will spend more time here when the stayctiona is over....
it's awesome!
What a wonderful image. I love the colors in your daughter's swimsuit, pail, and shovel against the neutrals in the landscape. I remember when I didn't mind the sand stuck to my skin. Those were the days. There are much better things to focus upon, right? She's got the right idea. Things like shells and good books. I'm really going to have to find this book.
Love these two photos and how perfectly you tied them together. The Shell Seekers is one of my all time favorite books too. One of the few books I’ve taken the time to read more than once.
Great post Kim. ♥ maureen
Love the photos! Headed to Amazon to look for The Shell Seekers.
Oh, The Shell Seekers is one of my favorites too. I haven't read it in ages... time to find it! Becky
Thanks so much for pairing my shell with that gorgeous image of your daughter. Summer exists in the sand on her arm! I love it ... and am inspired to read the book ... which I picked up from the library today! Again ... thanks so much! :D
these photos are absolutely wonderful. I am grateful for the book recommendation, too!
As you know I am not a rereader of books. But I must say I have reread The Shell Seekers a couple of times. But not in a long while. I think I'll have to reread it again and soon>
Great photos.
I finally have The Shell Seekers here with me. Looking forward to it.
