cool blues

When I think of coolness, I think of blue.  The everchanging blue of ocean and sky.  The misty smoky-blue of fog before the sun burns it away.  The amber-blue at the bottom of a sun-dappled pond.  The aqua-blue of foam at the edge of a wave.

I've been playing with creating some impressionistic images using textures, and last week I bought an inexpensive underwater disposable camera.  My image was shot half in and half out of the water, and to me it captures the cool solitude of an afternoon at Mystic Lake here on Cape Cod.

The Morning Sea by zazazed, shot with a Polaroid 440 Land camera, captures a similar cool blue impression, with its endless ocean and sky, a feeling of solitude, and lovely hazy morning coolness before the heat of the summer sun.  I love the delicious unpredictability and tones of Polaroid images, and zazazed's Polaroid work is just beautiful.

I'm so thrilled to be part of this new collaborative project with all of the muses and all of you. Many thanks to Tammy for dreaming it all up, and to the 7 other talented photographers who agreed to go on this journey together.

I encourage you to get out and play with a different  way of shooting photos.  Forget (for an hour or two) all the settings on your hard-earned DSLR.  Drag out your old film camera, or buy a cheap disposable, or hunt down a Polaroid, and focus on the feeling, the impression, you want to create.  We look forward to seeing the results.

Fabulous images. I love the idea of trying something new, outside the box. A good reason to play with my new camera phone this weekend.

I am totally inspired to set aside my D90 and play with my camera phone and Point & Shoot. Hmmm... Sounds like a fun project for the weekend.

Wow, so inspiring. I might go and try that disposable camera thing. It's probably a lot of fun.

I like the idea of forgetting all the settings and just playing. Perhaps I'll spend some more time with my little purse point and shoot.

I love the image (I had already seen and commented on the polaroid image and loved it so very much); but I love your words as well. I think images are powerful on their own but when coupled with wonderful words; they take on a life of their own. *happy sigh* Your entire first paragraph makes me very happy!
