I think I've mentioned before that I hate talking on the phone...it's become somewhat of a phobia. I equate this "fear" to a baby bird scared to fly out of the nest for the first time. I'd finally found my voice within in my photos and on my own blog...but to talk to someone on the phone literally terrified me. But like all baby birdies do, I put on my big girl panties and returned her call...after I let it go to voicemail first. Baby steps.
Reflecting back, I know exactly the reason I was so anxious about my phone call with Tammy. Weeks earlier, I'd made a personal commitment...one that would open (even push) doors and expand my circle of influence. These types of commitment are rarely ignored and often come with some sort of outward response. The Mortal Muses weren't even on my radar. Of course I was a fan, but I'd never considered being a part of such a creative group of women. Either way, Tammy had unknowingly responded to my request.

I've learned over the past six months that we can't always predict the opportunities that will be presented to us. But, when opportunity knocks, we should open the door and explore the possibilities. I am so thankful that I answered Tammy's call. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Mortal Muses this past year and even more excited to see where it will take us next year. Whether the skies be blue or gray, the road is wide open.
Onward!

Love your story and can't wait to see how much more you continue to grow next year. You are an amazing photographer Ashley and I enjoy reading you hear and your blog. Take care!
i hate talking on the phone, too, but tammy makes it easy, doesn't she? i see blue skies with scattered, happy, fluffy clouds in the year ahead!
It looks like the road you are on is the right one! Wonderful story Ashley, thank you for sharing from deep down : )
I'm another one that believes that when a door opens to brace the opportunity and go through - we just never know where it's going to lead! I rarely use a phone......... kinda dread answering it as ours hardly rings!
I was hoping to see a photo of a baby bird in big girl panties... not sure I have witnessed this ;) But seriously, a good reminder of how it is important to believe in yourself and your talent, and answer when opportunity knocks!
What a wonderful post Ashley! I remember that first email from Tammy too. Onward, indeed!
I am with Branson :)
On a more serious note, you are a perfect fit for sharing your voice and your photos here at Mortal Muses.
No surprise that you're on the muse list. Your images as well as your kind and generous personality make you a perfect fit. On to the future...just like these two images.
Awwww everyone's comments are so sweet. Virtual hugs all the way around! I'm going to miss each of the muses that are leaving us this year, but I'm also really excited about the open road ahead of us.
wonderful post! Loved that you shared your story and love the images...
Yes! I love this post, and nod my head in acknowledgement - when we create space, or make a personal commitment, it's impossible to turn away from once opportunity presents itself. So well said. x
Great story and what a great opportunity! Looking forward to what you have to show us this next year.
Heh. I have the same phone-phobia issues.
And isn't it wonderful when we open our hearts and minds to the possibilities that are there for us?
So glad to have mused alongside you and I'm looking forward to sharing another year, from the sidelines, with you and the new muses.
xoxo
